Use your computer's internet in your Android phone (rooted only)

This must come as a surprise but this is recent breakthrough by some Android developers in Codeproject.com, an online coding forum almost like XDA.
The Android architecture does not allow to start communication from the Android to the host through the USB cable. The opposite is possible, using the Google "Android Debug Bridge" (ADB in short).
This tool will act as a tunnel between the Android client application and the host server. It is a software implementation of a router doing IP port forwarding.
On the Host part, you have to declare the ports you want to be opened on the Android and the tunnel will transfer communications between the android and the host. The host can be any server on the network or your local host.

How to do:

Follow the steps to access internet in your phone using this:
  • Enable "Usb debuging" on your Android : Go to parameters / Applications / Development and check  "Usb debuging"
  • Install "Usb Tunnel" on your Android (see donwnload link on top of the article) or from the market :

  • Screenshot - market.jpg

  • Install the host windows application (see download link on top of the article) or this Google Drive link
  • On the configuration panel, enter the path to the ADB program. ADB is part of the Android SDK. The installation includes the minimum files required.
  • Add tunnels. Each tunnel is composed of a name, an Android port (low port like 80 can't be used), a host IP and a host port (can be different from the android port)

HTTP proxy

If Tethering is a technology that allows you to use the mobile internet connection on your PC, this tool gives you the opposite. It's a sort of Reverse Tethering.
You can now surf on your mobile (using the internet connection on your PC) through the Usb tunnel and via a proxy.
If you are on a company network, ask your administrator what IP adddress and port he is using for the proxy. In some cases it can be the default gateway (run ipconfig command at the DOS prompt to find out what the default gateway is).
If you are on a private network and you have no clue about the proxy adress and port, you can use a public proxy (do search for "Public proxy" on the internet). To help you out, here is link to a list of proxies.
Another possibility is to install a local http proxy server like squid.
Step 1 : configure the windows part. Since low ports can't be used, you should use a different high port for the android and another port for the host.
Sample configuration for a company network : (192.168.xxx.xxx) on port 80

 httpProxy.png

Sample configuration for a public internet proxy on port 8080
httpProxy2.png
Step 2 : Connect he USB cable (of course).  Click the refresh button to display your device in the device list then click connect. The Android Usb tunnel service will start in the background. A connection icon will be added on the notification pannel.
Step 3 : Setup your browser to use a proxy. Depending on the version of your Android OS, it's possible to define a http proxy in the advanced wifi settings menu (Not tested, available in some Android, but not all).

Normal Chrome browser

  • I didn't find a way to get it working. Forget about TransparentProxy, ProxyDroid or AsProxy. that require Root and don't work

Opera mobile

  • Enter opera:config in the address bar
  • Expand the proxy line
  • HTTP server : 127.0.0.1:8080
  • HTTPS server : 127.0.0.1:8080
  • Use HTTP : checked
  • Use HTTPS : checked
  • Click "Save"

Firefox Mobile

  • Enter about:config in the address bar
  • In the search filter (below address bar), enter "proxy"
  • Set network.proxy.http to 127.0.0.1
  • Set network.proxy.http_port to 8080
  • Set network.proxy.type to 1 (Manual). Default is 5 (system)

Skyfire

  •  I didn't find a way to get it working.

Step 4 : Enjoy! enter any URL on your browser. Your firewall may detect that AndroidTool.exe is trying to access the internet. Give him the rights to access the proxy.
    running.png
In this screenshot, you can see the number of active connections , closed connections, total bytes transfered (to and from)
I checked with an internet speed test. It's just a little bit slower.

Tips to reduce lagging in your low-cost device (tested)

The most common problem in a low-cost Android device is lagging. Most of us have this problem because of low RAM in our devices. I have tried & tested some methods which we can do to arrest this trouble upto some extent. Here are 10 tips for your low-cost Android device which will somewhat help you keep a optimum free memory in background.

    1.Avoid widgets
This is probably the foremost thing mostly people suggest & most of tech geeks think it is useful which is actually worth doing. By not keeping widgets on homescreen the background memory is free of those active widgets.

    2.Avoid sharing of APKs
Most of us share install non-market apps by sharing APKs which has made things quite easier but it has lots of disadvantadges. The non-market apps doesn't always get updates or bug fixes from the Play store which results in frequent crashing of the apps. So try to download all the apps from Google Play Store & keep them updating frequently.

3.Don't use any memory cleaner apps
I think most of the RAM booster or memory cleaner apps available in Play store are crap except those which comes standard with some devices. They just eat half your RAM itself.

    4. Remove unnecessary apps
More apps is equal to more consumption of RAM. So try to remove some less used or unimportant apps from your phone. It will surely boost your memory a bit.

    5.Install apps in internal memory
ICS/Jelly Bean may have given us the option to install our applications in SD card but that is not always good (for this category of phones). Storing of apps in internal memory makes the phone easy to handle the apps.

    6.Don't unnecessarily sync

Try to avoid sync to every other apps. And try not to sync the exchange services in your phone. Syncing all your different mail IDs in one device is not always advisable.

    7.Find alternative apps
Apps like Facebook, Messenger & few more consume lots of memory in background. Low cost device users you have to avoid this types of apps. Afterall there is always Opera Mini to use Facebook without eating lots of memory in background!

    8. Avoid customizations
Again this is a thing which is most advisable for a stable system i.e. to avoid personalisation different themes & launchers in your low-cost device. This always keeps a background process which is usually heavier than your default launcher. So avoid this.

    9. Avoid anti-virus applications
I think it quite a waste to install an anti-virus on an Android device because until & unless you do something very hardcore with your phone. My point of not using anti-virus on phone is that the Windows virus never attacks or harms Android & most of the anti-virus apps are just malware cleaner or memory booster (like what i mentioned above). So all it does is eat up all your RAM in the background & nothing good.

XOLO A500 Review - Cheapest from the company

    Under the hood:
I bought my A500 from Flipkart a month ago at a optimized price of Rs.5799. After a lots of research for a low-cost budget Android smartphone (within 6K) I found this to be most appropriate & best in features phone among all. The phone was originally priced at Rs.6500 at the megastore but I got it at a bargain as it was some limited offer for few days in which I got a SanDisk 8GB MicroSD card & a white back cover (additional to standard black one).
As per the on-box specifications, the screen size is 4-inches with three touch sensitive buttons. The phone has Android 4.0.4 (ICS) which is upgradeable to Jelly Bean (4.1). Under the shell it has 1GHz Dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor & ARM Cortex A7 GPU. It possesses 512MB RAM with 4GB internal storage. It has all the basic sensors like Proximity sensor, Gravity sensor & Light sensor which supports the auto brightness mode which lacks in most of the phone in this range. The camera is 5 megapixels auto-focus with a LED flash & a VGA front camera. The battery is 1500mAh which pulls it for a day or two (without data usage).

    Now about my experience:
The back has a rubber finish cover which good to hold & is resistant to fingerprints & dust. The battery does go quite well. But it is recommended to use the 5V charger for charging this device otherwise it causes some unresponsiveness & weird things happening with the phone while charging. The sound quality is quite good, you can't expect more at this price. The best feature of this phone is its touch & display. You won't get a better display (of same resolution) in any other Micromax or Karbonn devices. The touch is very responsive & smooth. The most disappointing feature in this phone is its camera & RAM. The camera is not more than 2 megapixels as per the picture quality it gives & the flash is completely useless because its no help in no light & it doesn't even works well as a flashlight. The RAM as per box as it is mentioned is not 512MB originally. Its only 384MB which causes lots of hanging & lagging in the phone. But overall its a good experience using the phone. The hanging & lagging wont matter to any geek 'cause its a common bad habit with every low cost Android device. I ran few games like Subway Surfers, Temple Run 2, Jetpack Joyride which were good enough for the hardware but some games like Agent Dash & Dead Trigger lagged a lot & required lots of cleaning of background memory. All total it was quite good. Other than this it supports all other applications like Photoshop Touch which doesn't worked in Samsung Galaxy Star Duos.

At last I must say XOLO has tried to keep up its level with its competitors like Micromax & Karbonn & is quite successful in doing that. Recently XOLO launched its A500S which also available win multi colours. The phone is also feature packed phone with bit of a higher graphics & display quality & RAM. The rectangular design is quite appealing.

    Verdict:
If you're looking for a phone under Rs.6K this a phone which is worth try if you're not brand concerned.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Feliz : Launched

It’s surprising that Maruti took so long to make a serious upmarket people mover after experimenting in the utility vehicle segment with the Omni and the Eeco. In April 2012 Maruti revealed its take on a multi utility family ride – the Ertiga. They also insisted that we would fall in ‘luv’ with it and called it a LUV or Life Utility Vehicle, instead of an MUV. It seems they were right too, because in just its first month of being on sale, Maruti received as many as 32,000 bookings. It had to do with the segment it addressed, of course, but more importantly its pricing was spot on. Even today it remains one of the more affordable MUVs one can buy priced between Rs 6.75 lakh for the base version and Rs 9.21 lakh for the top of the line ZDI.
REAR SPOILERBACK POCKET ORGANIZERSILVER COLOURED GRILLSEAT COVERS WITH FELIZ BRANDINGAnd now here it is Maruti's latest offering, a new limited edition of Ertiga in order to mark their anniversary & to celebrate the sellings of 70,000 Ertigas till date in India. The new Ertiga is all new styled with new upholstery, new body design & some changes in interior. The upgraded upholstery looks classy & good. The seats get a 'Feliz' badging on them & new car pillows additional. The back seats get back pocket organiser which is pretty useful. The interior is revised with a new two-tone beige dash. The steering gets a beige leather cover. There is also a new 2-din car stereo which feels upmarket. The floor mats are also light off-brown in colour with beige piping all around. You also get additional stylish door sill guards with 'Ertiga' badging. One more additional feature added to the security section which a reverse parking sensors which is quite efficient.
REVERSE PARKING SENSOR WITH DIGITAL DISPLAY

STYLISH BODY GRAPHICSFrom the exterior if we look we get a new attractive body decals & a new rear spoiler which gives the car a sporty look. Addition to it we also get a silver coloured front grills & some silvered touch-ups all over the car like in fog lamps & OSRVMs which makes it bit different from its predecessor.  All total if we look its a good way to celebrate their anniversary offering some extra features. But only limitation is, this model is available only in VXi or VDi variants. Price for this is little bit more than the original Ertiga. However it may differ from place to place & dealer to dealer.
